As is customary for us during the holiday season, Cory and I took in a movie yesterday. We went to see The Fighter. It was fantastic. I don't know if you, like me and my high school friends, had an obsession with HBO's High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell? What, you ask...oh please set aside an hour of your time to view this masterpiece. Before the dawn of the digital age, my husband guarded his prized VHS copy with his life. I think it is currently located in our fireproof, waterproof safe.
Ten years ago, if you told me that Micky Ward would be the topic of a movie and that Marky Mark would play him, I'd tell you to stop sniffing the Drakkar Noir. And I'd tell you to f-yourself if you told me that Dicky Eklund would be played by Christian Bale. For the record, both actors did a bang up job in this movie. There is well-deserved Oscar buzz for Christian Bale. He totally nailed the Lowell accent, a variation of the Boston accent that is not easy to emulate. Also noteworthy was Melissa Leo as Alice Ward. I had to look her up because she looked so familiar in the movie. She was Toni in Treme. Amy Adams tore it up too. And let's not forget the gaggle of Ward sisters. Totally Lowell.
I looked over at Cory during one point in the movie and he had a smile plastered across his face. I think this cinematic moment was second only to the birth of his children.
I have never been to or met anyone from Lowell.

As someone who never watches movies, I have this on my wish list once it hits on demand. Everytime I see the commercial I think of Cory.
