The Monthly Give- June 2011

This month's give is for Reach Out and Read. I was made aware of this a couple of months ago at our pediatrician's office. The doctor checked out the kids and then gave them each a book from Reach Out and Read, an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide.

Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers to develop critical early reading skills in children, beginning at 6 months of age. The 3.9 million families served annually by Reach Out and Read read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed, with larger vocabularies, stronger language skills, and a six-month developmental edge over their peers.

You can donate books to participating locations. A comprehensive list is found here. The books should be new or gently used.

I will be donating books at the end of the month, so if its easier for you, you can email me or leave a comment and I'll add your books to my growing pile.
